But the number of renovation projects is creeping up as landlords adapt to the very same trends.

    Kirksey recently worked on the 166-bed Hanszen College Wing at Rice University in Houston, which became the first on-campus collegiate residential mass timber building in the state of Texas. The new 57,500-square-foot residence is constructed from Southern Yellow Pine. Darrell Whatley notes the design team made a conscious effort to leave as much of the wood exposed within the building, igniting a strong sense of biophilic design within the residences and public spaces.

    Chevron Phillips Chemical will conduct a $60 million renovation at its new six-story headquarters in The Woodlands, according to an Aug. 1 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Kirksey Architecture will take on the renovation, which will encompass almost all six floors, or 324,000 square feet of the property.

Sustainability is a major emphasis for the firm, which can be seen in its design of the Alamo City offices of credit union Credit Human, which has solar panels on the roof and a water recycling system that reclaims 100,000-plus gallons of water, reducing the building's potable water usage by 97%.

    The Pearl is expanding again. A city panel on Wednesday approved new plans by the redevelopers of the former brewery campus for a mid-rise apartment tower north of the property. The multifamily project is planned for a 2-acre industrial site at 102 E. Josephine St., which sits along the Museum Reach of the River Walk in the booming Tobin Hill neighborhood.

  • 04 JAN 2023 Kelsey-Seybold opens Stafford clinic in The Grid mixed-use development

    Houston-based Kelsey-Seybold Clinic began 2023 with the opening of a new location in The Grid, the 192-acre mixed-use district developed on the site of the former Texas Instruments campus in Stafford. The two-story, 33,000-square-foot facility is at 11211 Nexus Ave., just off the Southwest Freeway. Houston-based Kirksey Architecture and Gamma Construction Co. worked on the facility, a Kelsey-Seybold spokesperson confirmed. The clinic currently employs 41 people, including nine physicians, and plans to have approximately 75 staff at full capacity.

  • 08 DEC 2022 River Oaks area condo mid-rise set to break ground

    The Lexington, a 40-unit condo building at 2419 Mimosa, is around the corner from another project by Pelican, which has developed condos and townhomes in Houston for decades. The company announced plans to break ground on The Lexington in the first quarter, after recently completing sales at The Revere.

    The buildings, located just east of Kirby Drive and south of San Felipe next to The Huntingdon condo tower, are among four recent developments designed in collaboration with Houston-based Kirksey Architecture.
