Celebrating a Milestone: Legacy Acres Homes Clinic Groundbreaking, Expanding Access to Care in Historic Neighborhood

Kirksey Architecture and Legacy Community Health have broken ground on the new Legacy Acres Homes Clinic. The 20,000-square-foot facility combines impactful design with accessible, comprehensive health care in one of Houston's most iconic neighborhoods. This latest collaboration builds on a partnership spanning over 25 years and reinforces both organizations' commitment to addressing critical healthcare needs in underserved communities. The Legacy Acres Homes Clinic will open in the summer of 2026.

Legacy Community Health is Texas's largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving more than 200,000 individuals annually. The new clinic in Acres Homes adds to a growing list of projects between the two organizations, including the Legacy Pasadena Southmore Clinic and the Fifth Ward Clinic. These facilities are part of an ongoing effort to increase access to affordable, high-quality care across Greater Houston. The new clinic was made possible by a more than $50 million gift from Houston Methodist, which funded two locations, including Legacy Pasadena Southmore Clinic.

The design of the Legacy Acres Homes Clinic reflects the identity and pride of the neighborhood. Bold colors, graffiti-inspired artwork, and music-coded iconography highlight notable local figures such as Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and former mayor and U.S. Representative Sylvester Turner. A reference to the iconic #44 bus line, an important symbol of community connectivity, is woven into the design, further rooting the facility in its surroundings.

"A key focus of the design was to incorporate upbeat and lively details that tell the story of Acres Homes and its community, showcasing what makes the area so special," said Necia Bonner, Associate Partner at Kirksey Architecture. "We are honored to be a part of a project that will positively impact the community for many years."

The facility offers adult and pediatric primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, behavioral health services, an infusion clinic, a pharmacy, and wraparound support services. The clinic's welcoming and energetic atmosphere, achieved through cost-efficient materials and striking geometric forms, was designed to foster healing, connection, and community trust.

The opening of the Legacy Acres Homes Clinic marks another milestone in Kirksey and Legacy Community Health's shared mission: delivering healthcare environments that are both accessible and reflective of the communities they serve.
