HOUSTON – Kirksey Cost Construction Trends 2024

Brian Malarkey, FAIA, Partner & Managing Director, Interior Architecture at Kirksey, reports a proportionate increase in corporate interiors at each budget tier, "We're seeing higher costs for high-end office environments and less significant cost increases at the mid-level and standard office spaces, as companies invest in the work environment to attract top talent."

Within the reports, the office building figures apply to the site and core and shell only, while the corporate interior costs reference a 25,000-square-foot floorplate. Kirksey has conducted this survey in Houston for over 20 years and expanded to the Austin market coverage in 2019. This is the second year the firm has reported on the Dallas market.

"Supply, chain, labor, and overall economic inflation issues continue to push prices up though material lead times have mostly stabilized," notes Paul Newsoroff, AIA, Partner and Managing Director, Commercial Practice at Kirksey, "We've also seen an uptick in adaptive reuse projects, as companies look to upgrade their existing spaces and campuses to attract and retain talent."

Kirksey has active commercial and corporate interior projects underway in all cities surveyed.
