
Energy Modeler
Houston, Austin & Dallas
Kirksey is seeking a full-time Energy Modeler to be an integral member of our Sustainability & Building Performance team and Design Studio in either Houston, Austin, or Dallas, Texas. We seek a person with a passion for green building and sustainability. The position includes energy modeling, daylight modeling, other types of building simulation, and green building research. The ideal candidate will be articulate and highly organized with strong technical, communications and writing skills. Candidates must be able to read detailed architectural and mechanical drawings and specifications and understand building industry terms.
Responsibilities
Energy Modeling
- Create detailed energy models for various building types, including, but not limited to, civic, commercial, collegiate, k-12 education, and multi-family.
- Utilize energy models to assist with design sustainability and decarbonization goals, including certification programs such as LEED, ENERGY STAR, and Living Building Challenge, as well as for building permit applications.
- Assist project designers in comparing various building systems and their impact on building energy consumption.
Energy Management
- Assist with energy program compliance, such as ENERGY STAR, Austin Energy Green Building, and 179D Energy Efficient Commercial Building Tax Deduction Forms.
- Gather project energy, water, and post-occupancy data, and assist with database/reporting for firm tracking and AIA 2030.
- Assist with Energy Audits and related documentation.
Maintenance of institutional knowledge-base
- Develop tools and templates to optimize energy modeling.
- Stay current on industry trends and initiatives for energy efficiency, such as AIA 2030 and MEP 2040.
- Maintain and improve organization of reference materials for ease of access.
Marketing
- Provide energy information for project and marketing materials.
- Prepare energy analysis visuals for project pursuits
Office-wide sustainability
- Promote office-wide awareness of environmental issues and initiatives.
- Assist in the development of company-wide sustainability/energy initiatives/policies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Deliver public presentations, on an as needed basis.
- Perform daylight modeling and other building performance simulations as needed to support project teams.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction, environmental science, or related subject is preferred.
- Work experience in design or construction industries required. Proficiency in energy modeling, complex reporting, and the desire to work as part of a project team a must.
- Familiarity with LEED documentation and certification is preferred.
